PASPAS

Mari Isopahkala and Tanja Sipilä are PASPAS – a Helsinki-based company and design partnership that finds functional and ethical methods to design the most beautiful and long-life textile products for the home and public spaces. The PASPAS collection mainly consists of rugs, but also includes furniture and other textile objects. PASPAS uses only original, recycled vintage textiles from Anatolia, re-producing them into high-quality design products. Of the PASPAS partners Mari Isopahkala is a designer who works widely between product, furniture and interior design. Her experience and inspiration come from working with a vast variety of materials. Design is like storytelling for her, and she always aims to generate a reaction in people. For her “there needs to be a reason to design – whether the reason is function or beauty”. Tanja Sipilä uses her energy and her innovative mind to drive things forward with persistence. She uses lateral thinking to her advantage, and this feeds the success of her design process. Sipilä’s expertise is product design, with much experience also in spatial and exhibition design. Tanja’s works are free from formal categories, and she describes them as “simplicity with flavor”. Both of the designers’ products can be found in domestic and international markets.

BOXBOX

BOXBOX is a modular-based rug where customers can choose their own color and shape based on a one-BOX module. Variation inside the system is the key to the design. All the materials used in BOXBOX are 100% wool, carefully selected from Anatolian vintage rugs that have been re-dyed, re-bleached, and re-formed. Production is 100% hand made in Anatolia. Each module is individual, and this makes each rug composition unique. The textiles vary in sewing style and colors, creating vibrant variations. Patches change places, and even accidents happen, which bring life to the design. Each rug proudly shows the mark of the hand and the story of the material.
