Jalo Helsinki

IN COLLABORATION WITH HARRI KOSKINEN AND PAOLA SUHONEN

Jalo Helsinki is a Finnish company established by five entrepreneurs who share a common vision of a world totally free of injuries and deaths caused by fire. For the projects on show at STRAIGHTFORWARD they partnered with two of the best-known names in contemporary Finnish design: Harri Koskinen and Paola Suhonen. Harri Koskinen is a prolific and highly versatile designer whose outstanding designs are internationally recognized. Koskinen’s unique style is characterized by an innovative while pure design language. He has won numerous awards, the most significant being the Compasso d’Oro Prize in 2005 and the world’s largest design prize, the Torsten & Wanja Söderberg prize, in 2009. Paola Suhonen on the other hand is one of the hottest names in Finnish design. In 1998, she co-founded the fashion house IVANA Helsinki, which in ten years has grown into an internationally recognized brand. Paola’s design clothing collection exudes ethics, relaxation and at the same time luxury. IVANA Helsinki was the first Nordic company to have its collection presented at the Paris Fashion Week.

KUPU AND LENTO

The first steps in Jalo’s mission are the Kupu and Lento smoke alarms, one elegant, the other playful, created in collaboration with designers Harri Koskinen (Kupu) and Paola Suhonen (Lento). The group behind the company believes that by adding style and design to the current selection of smoke alarms available on the market, they can spread greater awareness of fire safety knowledge and conquer markets worldwide.
