Anu Penttinen

Anu Penttinen, Designer (MA), founded Nounou Design in 2003. The company ties in many of Penttinen’s activities within the design field: operating a glass studio for hand-made glass objects and a separate showroom for distribution, freelance collaborations with glass factories and other companies, and design solutions for corporate B-to-B needs. All this brings together Penttinen’s love for artistic expression in glass and the design challenge of limited editions and production pieces that complement and continue ideas initially materialized as one-off art objects. Penttinen wishes to contribute to the 217-year-old tradition of Finnish glassmaking while renewing it with strong, contemporary imagery.

CITY PLAN ‘24/7’

The City Plan wall pieces are versatile ‘art products’. City Plan represents Penttinen’s interest in introducing urban moods into hand-made art glass objects. A City Plan is about the small details within a cityscape: signs and signals, architecture, walkways and everyday objects that make the city function. An individual City Plan installation can consist of any number of small glass reliefs with magnetic backing. Each piece is hand-made by fusing together several sheets of colored glass. These reliefs together form a wall piece, large or small, in any opaque color. City Plan can be a commissioned site-specific artwork in tailored size, shape and color. Alternatively one can start collecting and putting an artwork together by purchasing it piece by piece. The magnetic backing means that the artwork can be played with by moving the blocks around, and it can also be added to. The exhibition piece called 24/7 is specifically made for this occasion and is inspired by Manhattan.
